New Guide: How to Apply for Laboratory Services for Research

Step 1: Submit your application

Begin by contacting us at mdk.studiestod.labmed.karolinska@regionstockholm.se

A study coordinator will respond with an application form. Complete the form and return it to the same email address, including all required appendices.

Note: You may submit your application at any time. However, a service agreement cannot be finalized until ethical approval and, if applicable, a biobank agreement is in place.

Step 2: Application validation

Your application will be reviewed by a study coordinator to confirm:

• that the requested services are available through the laboratory
• that all necessary documentation to initiate the study is provided 

If anything is missing, you will be asked to submit the required supplementary information.

Step 3: Approval from medical departments

A preliminary study plan is developed in collaboration with you. This plan is then shared with the relevant medical departments within the laboratory for approval.

If your application is not approved, you will be informed by the study coordinator.

Step 4: Establishing the service agreement

Once internal approval is granted, a formal service agreement is prepared.

• Signing is typically done electronically via a web service
• Wet-ink signatures can be arranged upon request
• A signed copy will be sent to you by email or post

Step 5: Preparations before study start

Following the signed agreement, the study coordinator will ensure all operational requirements are in place. This may include:

• creation of a studiekombika (study-specific account) 
• setup of remittance routines
• necessary IT adjustments for ordering and result reporting 

A close dialogue is maintained with you throughout this phase to ensure everything is ready for study initiation.

Step 6: Study initiation

You may begin your study on the agreed-upon start date once all prerequisites are fulfilled.
